Idle Sleep Review
A good night’s sleep is one of the most important things that you can do for your and your family’s health. Many factors can make this hard to achieve. If your bed is uncomfortable or you wake up feeling sore or unrested, upgrading your mattress could be an excellent investment.
I spent close to a year comparing options before deciding to try the Idle Hybrid. Why did I go with Idle?
- #1 absolute most exciting feature for me – You can get a flippable mattress that is “medium” on one side, “firm” on the other! Flippable mattresses used to be the norm. But it has been years since I could find one at a mattress store.
- 18 month trial period. That’s over a year to make sure idle stands up to every-day use and to make sure it stays comfortable through all four seasons!
- 60-month no-interest financing from Synchrony Home. If your credit is approved, you can benefit from a better night’s sleep for less than $1/day!
A mattress shipped to my house!
I did not receive any shipment confirmation from IdleSleep. But FedEx Delivery Manager notified me that they were picking up a 114 pound package for delivery to my address. I know mattresses are heavy, but I didn’t know they were that heavy! A rep told me that they usually ship UPS.
I was surprised to see how small the shipping box was. Worried that they may have sent me a twin size instead of a queen. Upon opening, I could see that they folded my mattress in half before rolling it up and putting it in a box.
Unboxing my new mattress
Sounds: I had a friend help bring in my mattress and set it up. It made a fun suction sound as it tried to re-inflate itself through the plastic cover.
Smell: There was a chemical-like smell when the mattress was first opened, but it wasn’t as strong as I was afraid it would be. The instructions say to wait 2 hours before you put on a mattress cover or sheets. I assume that is to let it air out. So I turned on the ceiling fan and left the room.
Free Pillows: I thought these were supposed to ship separately. My box included two heavy memory foam pillows. They smelled stronger than the mattress and were slower to puff up.
What do I think about the Idle Hybrid?
Confession: I am a heavy person. It is hard for someone like me to find an affordable mattress with good support. I am hopeful that the Idle Hybrid will help me sleep pain-free which should in turn give me more energy to improve my health throughout the day.
Our pets were not impressed, but the humans of my home like the Idle Hybrid! It initially felt too soft. We didn’t think we could stand it. But once we were all the way in bed, it was very comfortable. The soft layers cradled and relieve pressure points. The inner layers offered a nice level of firmness and support.
Sleeping Positions: I am a back sleeper. I was glad to feel that the Idle Hybrid offered nice, even support, regardless of if I was sprawled out in the middle of the bed or scooted to the edge to make room for my family. I am also a side sleeper. I was impressed by the lack of pain in my shoulders. Those layers of softness that initially weirded me out were actually a good thing!
Free Pillows: Why do mattress companies think you want a free over-priced pillow? It doesn’t seem to add much value when I can go to WalMart and get two brand new pillows for less than $10.
I will tell you why … Because they are smart! I totally intended to try the free pillows long enough to write a review then give them away. But wow … The free pillows were a perfect thickness for side sleeping! The shredded memory foam conformed perfectly to my neck and shoulder.
It is too thick for back sleeping. But I read that the nice thing about shredded memory foam is that you can remove the extra to create a thickness you like.
Side / Edge Support
I have heard mixed reviews about the edge-support of the Idle Hybrid. My experience is that the side edges offer a nice balance of side support. It did not feel like I would fall off while sleeping on the edge. But it did have a nice give when I was getting out of bed.
The foot of the bed was a different story. Reaching off the foot of the bed to grab a sock, I didn’t fall off but I didn’t feel like it was going to support me very well either if I leaned too far.
Temperature
It is summer and I live in the southern US. I keep my house around 77 degrees at night to find a balance of comfort without over-working the air conditioner. A couple of hours into the night I noticed that the Idle Hybrid felt warm but not hot. It was actually pretty nice. I look forward to seeing how well it holds heat with a blanket in the winter!
Value for the Price
At $1420 for a queen*, the Idle Hybrid is a significant investment. But with a 60-month no-interest financing option I believe this mattress is totally worth it. I will be sleeping better and waking up with less pain for less than $1/day.
I found this 20% off affiliate banner, but there wasn’t an expiration date. Please let me know if it doesn’t work.
* Price as of September 2020.
Also available on Amazon!
The medium firmness mattress is also available on Amazon.com. However, the financing options are not as good (18-months no interest if you have an Amazon Prime Rewards Visa card) and I urge you to contact the seller to find out of they offer the same 18-month trial and lifetime warranty on mattresses purchased through Amazon.
